Literal darkness, in fact.
For lack of a better way to get started on Herding Chaos, I thought I’d chronicle the impending demolition of my apartment building’s plaza. They’ve been threatening to renovate the plaza and the garage underneath ever since I moved to Van Ness East (VNE) in spring 2004. I was hoping to have moved on by the time this became a reality, but now that I’m here, I’m going to do what any good neighbor would: complain and take lots of pictures. (pics coming soon)
Monday was d-day. They moved the entrance of the building to the second floor, roped off the exits to the plaza, and told all of us looking out onto the plaza to tape off our windows to keep the cement dust from coming in and to remove breakables from the walls. I left for work and waved good bye to the undamaged land below my window. I got home from work and nothing had changed.
Tuesday - nothing.
Wednesday - this morning there were a few trucks pulled into the plaza. Tonight - darkness. Whoo-hoo! Even though I will be awoken every morning from now until summer by jackhammers and similar unpleasantries, I will sleep in relative darkness without the light from the street-lampy things.
