*Robber Bride - Margaret Atwood Three friends versus one manipulative lady. Atwood writes about women better than anyone else.
*The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn- Mark Twain I took an American Humor class in high school and read a ton of Twain. I never like him, but my mind has changed as an adult. It think I missed the subtlety of his humor before.
*American Pastoral - Philip Roth. Man deals with his terrorist daughter. Loved it. I think this is the first Roth I have read. From this book he reminds me of Updike, and in some ways Atwood. They all have this ability to capture the nuances of human emotion / reaction and moral dilemmas without becoming preachy or heavy handed.
